Hi I'm Marcela. I'm 21 and I'm living the so called “quarter life crisis”. I’m two months away from getting my degree in Communications and Media. A lot of people have told me that I should travel the world after graduation. Others suggest that I should start a professional career to earn money. For some, that’s the only way to travel and live different experiences.

The reality is that I don’t know what to do with my life. That indecision, and anxiety invades me occasionally. You could say I'm Gollum and Smeagol from "Lord of the Rings". One day I want to do something completely spontaneous and buy the first available plane ticket and leave indefinitely; other days I want to grow professionally as a photographer or in the advertising industry.

Nowadays, young adults have a lot of pressure to succeed and “become someone important”. We are being pressured by our own expectations. Don’t get me wrong, it's great to have aspirations, specially when you’ve got a goal, something to fight for. But there are times when one simply has two opposite paths: a comfortable life or a life of risk and adventure. Someday one sounds more appealing than the other one.

Where am I going with all this? I've noticed that when I travel, I feel free from restrictions, I feel independent. At the end of the day, this is my life. There will be times you fail again and again. But I prefer to stay with the feeling that I did what I wanted, rather than complain about living a life that I don’t want to live. So I encourage you to do things because you want to, not because you have to. This is the only way to build the future. If we had all clear, life would be simply too boring. That's why, even though it’s stressful not knowing what comes next, there are times when we have to let things be and allow ourselves to be surprised.

Hola, soy Marcela.
