17 Hauntingly Beautiful Photos Of Abandoned Places
Photographer Stefano Perego spent 9 years traveling to abandoned sites. Here are a few of his most moving photos.
Church ruins in Zeliszòw, Poland
This church, originally built in 1796, was deserted at the end of World War II.
Communist Party headquarters in Buzludhza, Bulgaria
This spaceship-like HQ was closed in 1989, after the fall of Communism.
Stairway in a sugar mill in Sermide, Italy
This mill operated from 1912 to 1982 before closing down. The building was recently demolished and replaced with a supermarket.
Dreamland theme park in Nara, Japan
This park was built in 1961, inspired by Disneyland (which opened in 1955). But in 2006, low numbers of visitors forced it to shut its gates. (Spirited Away, anyone?)
